Your roast machine needs to be successfully connected to the Roasting Intelligence before you can start performing the actions outlined in this article.

Introducing the two main tools

Before you start roasting, we recommend you familiarize yourself with the tools below:

  1. Managing tool: Online platform C-sar
  2. Roasting tool: Roasting Intelligence (RI)

Online platform C-sar

The online platform C-sar is a cloud tool that stores all your data and helps you to keep track of your production, green inventory, quality control, and much more.

After logging in, you have the flexibility to choose which information is displayed on your dashboard.

Simply click on the dropdown menu next to the Customize button to select the data that best suits your workflow.

The key features of the online platform C-sar vary depending on your subscription and permission.

Roasting Intelligence (RI)

Roasting Intelligence (RI) visualizes and tracks your roasts, and also (depending on the roast machine) replays your Profiles.

Your roasts will also be uploaded and stored on the online platform C-sar.

The basic steps of starting with Cropster Roast

The method of roasting can be compared to cooking. To create a delicious meal, you need two components: ingredients and a recipe.

To make a great roast, your ingredients are your lots added to the Inventory, and your recipe is your Profile.

In the following sections, we will explain to you the basic steps of getting started with Cropster Roast.

We kindly recommend you follow this workflow to get the most out of Cropster.

  1. Adding locations
  2. Adding lots to the Green Inventory
  3. Creating a Profile or Profile groups
  4. Performing your first roast with the Roasting Intelligence (RI)
  5. Setting a reference roast

Adding locations

By using locations you are able to split your lots and also track all the actions after you assigned your lots to a certain location, e.g. roastery, warehouse.

You can add the following location types:

  • Roastery
  • Lab
  • Cafe
  • Warehouse
  • Farm
  • Mill
  • Other: You can also create a virtual location to keep track of your contracted lots.

Adding lots to the Green Inventory

The Green Inventory outlines your physical coffee stock and helps you to keep track of it via the online platform C-sar.

With Cropster, you can also split your green inventory between locations, e.g., roasting facilities and warehouses.

Cropster will also automatically deduct the amount of green coffee from your Inventory when you roast, so you will always know exactly how many beans you have left.

Creating a Profile or Profile groups

In Cropster, we use the term Profiles to refer to the recipe you use to create your final product.  The recipe gives you the ingredients and also the instructions.

A Profile group is a set of different profiles that all create the same product or product component. It is required when setting up and scheduling post-roast blends.
Learn how to create a Profile group.

Profiles allow you to track each roast based on how you roast it.

You can create three types of Profiles in Cropster:

  1. Single origin
  2. Pre-roast blend
  3. Post-roast blend

We recommend a maximum number of 100 Profiles. Having more than 100 Profiles may lead to synchronization problems with the Roasting Intelligence (RI).

Performing your first roast with the Roasting Intelligence (RI)

Roasting Intelligence (RI) offers valuable insights that can elevate your product development. It enhances your operational efficiency while ensuring consistent quality in your roasts.

Setting a Reference Curve

After you have successfully finished with your first roast and have developed your Profiles, you can set your Reference Curve.
We recommend creating a Profile for all your recipes so you can set a Reference Curve for each Profile.

The Reference Curve is your guideline during the roast and an important tool to maximize your consistency.
This will be the grey curve in the background of your Roasting Intelligence that guides you through the roast.
