What is the Rate of Rise (RoR)?

The Rate of Rise (RoR) is the speed at which the temperature of your beans is increasing.

It’s measured over a specific time, usually between 30 and 60 seconds.

The Rate of Rise (RoR) setup

By following the steps below, you can set up the Rate of Rise (RoR) within RI:

  1. Log in to Roasting Intelligence (RI).
  2. Navigate to thePreferences on the bottom left side of the screen.
  3. Select Roasting > Rate of Rise (RoR).
  4. Choose between Recommended, Sensitive, and Noise smoothing, then select your preferred Time expression unit.
  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

We suggest using the recommended (standard) RoR curve setting.

The time expression doesn't affect the RoR calculation, but only shows your preferred measurement unit for temperature increments (default: 60s).

Disable/enable RoR for the measurements

By following the steps below, you can enable/disable the Rate of Rise (RoR):

  1. Log in to Roasting Intelligence (RI).
  2. Navigate to thePreferences on the bottom left side of the screen.
  3. Select Machine > Measurements.
  4. Select the dropdown associated with the measurement for which you want to enable or disable the Rate of Rise (RoR).
  5. To enable the Rate of Rise (RoR) for the selected measurement, simply check the box next to the Rate of Rise; it will turn green to indicate activation.
If you would like to disable RoR, uncheck the box, and it will revert to white, indicating that it is turned off.
  6. Click Save to apply the changes.
