This article explains how to set your Roasting Intelligence (RI5) Preferences.
Roasting Intelligence (RI5) Preferences
By following the steps below you can easily access the Roasting Intelligence (RI5) Preferences:
- Log in to the Roasting Intelligence (RI5).
- Navigate to the
Gear icon on the bottom of the left side of the screen to open Preferences.

- System tab
- Roasting tab
- Machine tab
System tab
The System tab is where you'll find different sections to customize your preferences and settings:
General
- Revise your preferred Language by clicking on the dropdown:
💡When "System default" is set, Roasting Intelligence (RI) takes the language settings from the online platform C-sar account settings. - Reset productivity hints: Selecting this option will allow you to view the initial usage hints again.
Units

Revise your preferred Weight, Temperature, Pressure, and Roast value units.
💡 You have the option to save two distinct roast values - Roast Value 1 for whole beans and Roast Value 2 for ground beans - allowing you to customize your roasting experience for different bean types.
Within the Roasting tab, you will find various sections that cover key features and settings related to the roasting process:
Interface
- Between Batch Protocol: Enabling this checkbox will allow you to activate measurement curves, and the Between Batch Timer will be shown once a roast is completed and before starting a new roast.

- Modulation
- Development

- Confirm end of roast: Enabling this checkbox will allow you to choose whether or not to require a second click to confirm the stopping of the roast.
- Machine controls: You have the flexibility to choose the placement of the Slider buttons.
- Top
- Bottom
- Measurement readouts: Enabling this checkbox will optimize the layout by reducing the amount of space used for measurement displays.
Rate of Rise (RoR)
- Rate of Rise (RoR) settings:
- Recommended
💡 We suggest using the Recommended (standard) RoR curve setting. - Sensitive

- Time expression: You can choose your preferred unit of measurement for temperature increments by clicking on the dropdown menu.

Smart features

- Bean curve prediction: When checked, RI predicts the bean temperature and RoR two minutes into the future.
- First crack prediction: When checked, RI will predict when the first crack will most likely happen.
- Flick prediction: When checked, RI prompts a modal on the roasting chart to alert you about the flick's possibility during the roast.
- Smart replay: Use it to reproduce Profiles recorded with slider controls.
- Smart alerts
- Smart roast completed: This feature resets the slider controls to their initial settings for a profile automatically after the roast cycle, following a designated delay.
- Smart detection
- Temperature-based auto-start and end of roast: The beginning and end of a roast are automatically activated by a notable temperature decrease that occurs when loading or unloading the drum with coffee beans.

Chart and comments
- Chart axes
💡 You can reset the Chart axes by clicking on the Reset chart axes button.
- X-axis: The X-axis shows the length of the Chart, in terms of roast duration in minutes.
💡We recommend you avoid setting the X-axis too close to your roasts' duration; roasting beyond the X-axis range set may lead to issues.
- Y-axis: The Y-axis shows the temperature units.
💡 Please keep in mind that the Y-axis's ideal range may vary depending on your roast machine, the temperature unit, the RoR setting, and the Time expression set.
- Temperature
- Maximum: We recommend to set the maximum temperature based on the the hottest temperature measurement monitored from your roasting chart.
- Minimum: We recommend setting the minimum temperature based on the lowest Bean temperature.
- Rate of Rise

- X-axis: The X-axis shows the length of the Chart, in terms of roast duration in minutes.
- Events and comments
- Mark or hide by:
- Bean temperature
- Time
- Events:
- Auto-mark development events: When checked, RI marks color change, First crack and Second crack based on your Profile's Bean temperature.
- Auto-mark development events: When checked, RI marks color change, First crack and Second crack based on your Profile's Bean temperature.
- Comments
- Hide past reference comments: When enabled, RI will hide the past reference comments, except Turning point, First/Second crack, color change. The option cleans the chart as the roast progresses.
- Show gas curve comments when there are no more than: You can choose the number of gas curve comments displayed, allowing you to maintain a clear and organized curve without unnecessary clutter.
💡The feature that displays the gas curve as comments is available exclusively for roasting machines that can automatically track gas measurements using Roasting Intelligence (RI).
- Comments to show and to be added (by Reference and current roast): In this section, you can choose which comments you wish to display on the Sidebar and/or the Chart lines.

Customize roast labels
- QR-Code
- Top
- Bottom
- None
- Template
- Detailed (up to 12 slots)

- Base font size
- This defines the size of the labels. The size of the sections content is defined in proportion to the base font size.
- Instructions
- Drag and drop items from the left side onto the template to configure your label for printing.
💡Empty sections will be ignored and not use any space on the label.

- Reset to default
- This will revert all customization to the standard settings provided by the system. It can be useful if you want to start fresh or undo any changes you have made.
- Print preview
- This will allow you to see how your labels will look with options for QR-Code placement (top, bottom, or none), template selection (detailed for up to 12 slots or card for up to 5 slots), and adjusting the base font size.

Machine tab
If your machine is not yet successfully set up, look for the corresponding setup manual via Cropster Helpdesk or get in touch with our Support Team.
The Machine tab consists of the followings:
Configuration
- Machine: To select your roast machine, click on the dropdown menu and choose your specific machine from the list.
💡To ensure your roast machine appears in the list, you need to add it via the online platform C-sar prior to accessing the Roasting Intelligence (RI). - Connector setup: To add and set up new connectors, simply click on the +Add connector button.
💡 You need to choose the appropriate connector that matches the configuration of your roast machine.
Measurements
- After adding the measurements to the list below, you have the ability to enable them, customize their settings, and rearrange them according to your preferred order by clicking on the Drag and drop
icon.

To activate the measurements, simply click the green toggle button.

Switch on the measurements you would like to enable and select the respective connector from the dropdown.
💡 Make your measurement readouts more compact. Choose the size of your measurement readouts by selecting either the Small or Large view for display. - You can enhance your measurements by adjusting the graph settings:
- Color: Choose your preferred color for each measurement.
- Curve: When checked, there will be a curve shown in the chart for the respective measurement.
- Value: When checked, the current temperature of the measurement shows up on the right-hand side of the chart.
- Temperature offset: If the temperature in RI and your roast machine slightly differ, enter the difference as an offset. A deviation of a few degrees is common, especially when the signal is spliced.
💡 If the deviation in temperature is bigger than 5°F/3ºC or if there are any uncertainties, please feel free to get in touch with our Support Team.

Controls
- After adding the slider controls to the list below, you have the ability to enable them, customize their settings, and rearrange them according to your preferred order by clicking on the Drag and drop
icon.
