Supported measurements

Depending on your roast machine's model, year and the Diedrich sensor package included with the machine, you may, or may not be able to track these measurements.

Setting up a connection
  1. Diedrich IR-series roast machines (w/ Z2.5 automation) will need to be equipped with an Ethernet switch.
The Ethernet switch must have a minimum of 3 ports.
  2. Diedrich uses a Stride SE2-SW5U Ethernet switch.
It requires an additional power supply with wired connections. Other switches or routers may be used as well, but might not fulfill industry standards.

We recommend an Ethernet switch over a router.

An Ethernet switch is typically ready to use right out of the box, while a router may require configuration before it can be used.

The EDS-205 Series Ethernet switch is also rated to operate at temperatures ranging from -10 to 60°C, and is rugged enough for harsh industrial environments.

On Diedrich IR models, Airflow control is limited to 0%, 50% and 100% only. Any airflow settings in between won't be taken into account.

When controlling gas and airflow from Roasting Intelligence (RI), the values on the Diedrich HMI change with a delay of several seconds; this is only affects the display of the values.

The roast machine reacts to gas and airflow changes from RI usually within 1-2 seconds.

    Troubleshooting

If the RI indicates No sources connected and/or you cannot see any measurements, please check the following:

    • Is the static IP address configured correctly?
    • Does the IP address of your roaster differ from the default?
    • Is the ethernet cable connected to the switch or router of the roasting machine?
Do not connect it to the ethernet port of the roaster's HMI (touch screen).

If the RI indicates Sources connected but you cannot see any measurements, please check the following:

    • Is the Diedrich roast machine "Cropster Ready"?
This is indicated by the "Cropster Replay" button on the HMI display.

The Cropster Replay button is only shown when the roast machine is in Manual mode.

Auto mode will turn the Cropster Replay button off making the button not visible!

    • Do the roast machine's PLC and HMI software version match the required versions (ending in "_C")?

    Are the control sliders unresponsive?

If the gas and airflow values are shown, but the roast machine does not react to changes of the control sliders in RI, verify that the Cropster Replay button is switched on.
