Why milling lots? The main steps of milling lots Milling lots (Video)

Why milling lots?

Once the dry-milling process for a lot is complete, it's essential to accurately document the final quantity of green coffee in Cropster.

The Milling lot function enables you to reduce the quantity of unmilled Inventory while at the same time producing new Green Inventory.

You can choose between the following two options:

  1. Creating new lots for the green weight.
  2. Combining the green weight into an existing lot.

Each lot includes a Grade field that allows you to monitor and categorize the different results from the milling process.

For instance, milling 25 bags of parchment could result in a new lot consisting of 15 bags of high-grade (screen 14+) green coffee. Additionally, you might have 4 bags of low-grade coffee to merge into an existing "under grade" lot and 1 bag of defective coffee to merge into a "residual" lot.

The main steps of milling lots

  1. Selecting the lots
  2. Recording the weight to be milled
  3. Milling into a new lot
  4. Milling into an existing lot
  5. Byproduct weight
  6. Confirm milling

Selecting the lots

Only the lots that have the following processing steps can be milled (They all have the PP prefix on the ID-Tag):

  • Parchment
  • Dry-cherry
  • Raw green

By following the steps below, you can select the lots to be milled:

  1. Log in to the online platform C-sar.
  2. Navigate to Inventory on the main menu bar. You will be directed to the Inventory overview page.
  3. Find the PP-lot you would like to mill.
  4. Navigate to the right side of the page and click on the Mill lot icon.
  5. You will be directed to the Mill lots page.
  6. Here you can choose between the following:
    • The resulting milled weight should be used to create a new Green Inventory
    • The resulting milled weight should be added to the existing Green Inventory
    • The resulting milled weight should be added to both.

Recording the weight to be milled

  1. Navigate to the Lots to be milled section on the Mill lots page.
  2. Enter the weight that needs to undergo the milling process.
  3. Click on the arrow to select the entire amount.

Milling into a new lot

  1. Navigate to the Create new green lot section on the Mill lots page.
  2. Click on +Add new green lot.
  3. Enter the following details:
    • New lot name
    • Classification
    • Weight
  4. Click Mill lot to submit.

Consider creating new lots specifically for your high-grade export-quality coffee.

Milling into an existing lot

  1. Navigate to the Add to existing green lot section on the Mill lots page.
  2. Click on +Add to existing green lot.
  3. Enter the following details:
    • Destination green lot
    • Weight
  4. Click Mill lot to submit.

Consider incorporating lower-quality beans, defective beans, or leftover coffee into existing commercial lots for a more efficient use of resources.

Byproduct weight

At the bottom of the Mill lot page, you will find the remaining weight after subtracting the total weight of the new/existing lots you are adding from the weight to be milled.

The remaining weight, known as the Byproduct weight, will be allocated to a separate lot labeled with the prefix PY and State = Byproduct.

You can easily locate and review these lots by returning to the original PP Lot Details page. They will be listed under Destination lots at the bottom of the page for your reference.

If there is no remaining byproduct weight after subtracting the total weight of the new/existing lots, then a PY-lot will not be created.

Confirm milling

By clicking on the Mill lot in the bottom right corner of the Mill lots page, you will be redirected to the Inventory overview page.

If you have milled the entire weight of the PP lot, it will no longer appear on the list. Any new lots that were created will have the prefix PG, and any existing lots that were added to, will have updated weights.

By following the steps below, you can view previously milled lots:

  1. Click on the dropdown next to Customize on the Inventory overview page.
  2. Enable the option by clicking on the button labeled Include consumed inventory.
  3. The PP-lots will be visible on the Inventory overview page.
