Setup

Network connection setup

Via a network router: Connect the roaster to your network router using an Ethernet cable. The router will automatically assign an IP address to the machine. Ensure that your computer is connected to the same local network.

Directly to the computer: Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the roaster's Ethernet port and the other end to your computer's Ethernet port.

Note: If the roaster is connected directly to the computer, you must configure a Static IP address.

Identifying the IP address

Once the Probat P III is connected to the network, an IP address will be assigned to it. You can locate this IP address on the roaster's display under Preferences > General.

Note: The IP address on your Probat may differ from the one shown in this screenshot:

Static IP address configuration - Windows 10, 11

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center (or Network and Internet > Network Sharing Center).
  2. Click Change adapter settings.
  3. Identify and select the network connection corresponding to your roast machine. (If unsure, disconnect and reconnect the Ethernet cable to see which icon changes status).
  4. Right-click on the WiFi or Local Area Connection and click Properties.
  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
  6. Select the Use the following IP address option.
  7. Enter the specific IP Address for your roaster, replacing the fourth number block with 42:
    • For example, if the machine's IP address is 10.20.0.211:
    • IP Address: 10.20.0.42
    • Important: The first three blocks of the IP address must match the IP address shown on your roaster's panel.
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  8. Leave the remaining fields blank.
  9. Click OK to submit your changes.

Static IP address configuration - macOS

  1. Navigate to System Settings > Network (or System Preferences).
  2. Identify and select the network connection corresponding to your roast machine. (If unsure, disconnect and reconnect the Ethernet cable to see which icon changes status).
  3. Click Details...
  4. Open the TCP/IP section and select Manually next to Configure IPv4.
  6. Click OK to confirm the changes.

Install Roasting Intelligence (RI)

  1. Download the Roasting Intelligence software.
  2. Complete the installation process by following the provided steps.
  3. Double-click the Cropster icon on your desktop to launch RI.
  4. Click the Login with browser button.
  5. You will be directed to the C-sar sign-in page in your browser. Enter your Username and Password, then click the green Sign in with password button.

Establish a connection to the machine

Before configuring your roast machine, ensure you have added it via the C-sar online platform.

  1. In Roasting Intelligence, navigate to Preferences > Machine > Configuration.
  2. Click the Machine drop-down menu and select your Roast machine.
  3. Click the + Add connector button to choose your connector from the drop-down list.
  4. Select Probat Websocket (P III Series).
  5. Click Select to add the connector.
  6. Navigate to the Machine > Measurements tab to view all supported measurements.
  7. Activate the desired measurements by clicking the toggles next to them (a green toggle indicates it is enabled).
  8. For each enabled measurement, select Probat Websocket (P III Series) from the drop-down menu.
  9. (Optional) Rearrange the order of the measurements using the Drag and Drop icon.
  10. Navigate to the Machine > Controls tab. Enable your desired controls using the toggles and assign Probat Websocket (P III Series) as the connector type.

  12. Navigate to the Machine > Switch controls tab. Enable the Switch controls using the toggles and rearrange them using the Drag and Drop icon if needed.
  13. Return to the Machine > Configuration tab and click the Gear icon in the Connector setup section to configure the PLC IP settings.
  14. Enter the IP address of the roast machine and click OK.
  15. Click Save to finalize the changes.

After saving, RI will automatically restart. If the setup is successful, the temperature values will display on the right side of the screen once the application reloads.

Tip: Learn more about Roasting Intelligence Preferences and how to roast using the Controls and Replay Assist features. You can also set a roast with recorded Drum speed data as a Reference to replay your recorded Drum speed changes.

Troubleshooting

If RI displays No source connected or if measurements do not appear, verify the following:

  • Is the IP address correct?

Caution when using Replay Assist:
Do not use the Probat Pilot roaster shop or any other temperature-controlling software simultaneously. Any manual changes to gas, airflow, or drum speed made from a concurrent client will disable Replay Assist for the remainder of the roast.

If you need further assistance setting up your roast machine, please submit a ticket to Cropster Support.
