Overview
This article explains how to use the Cropster Cafe's Consistency report for your connected espresso machines.
The Consistency report tracks brew quality and flags any espresso machines that are off-track.
This analysis looks at the numbers alone, not your recipe settings.
Instructions
Navigating to the Consistency report
- Log in to the online platform C-sar.
- Navigate to Cafe > Telemetry.
-
Use the Go to dropdown and select Consistency report.

Exploring the Overview cards
These cards show how consistent your coffee is based on the filters you have chosen:
- Total brews: The number of shots tracked for your selected filters.
- In range: The percentage of shots that hit your quality targets. High numbers mean your coffee is consistent.
- Outliers (Time): Shots that ran too fast or too slow.
-
Outliers (Water pulse): Shots where the water flow or pulsing was off-track.

Exploring the Parameter Overview cards
Use the Parameter Overview cards to dive into details for each metric. Just click the button for the specific area you want to check:

-
Time
- Brews with time
- Outliers above 3rd quartile
- Outliers below 1st quartile
- Average
- Standard deviation
-
Brew water pulses
- Brews with brew water pulses
- Outliers above 3rd quartile
- Outliers below 1st quartile

- Standard deviation
Calculating Outliers
The Consistency report uses a math formula to identify outliers. An outlier is any brew that is statistically ‘weird’ compared to your average. If it is significantly faster or slower than your usual shots, the report will flag it so you can check your grinder or the technique.
Any value below Q1-1.5xIQR and above Q3+1.5xIQR is considered an outlier, whereby:
- Q1 (the first quartile): This value identifies the median of the lowest 50% of your brews
- Q3 (the third quartile): This value identifies the median of the highest 50% of your brews
- IQR (interquartile range): This value defines the difference between Q3 and Q1, which holds roughly 50% of your brews, ie, 25% above and 25% below your median.
Any value that is not an outlier is considered in range.
💡 Tip:
Do not worry about the specific calculation, just focus on the outliers. If that number is high, it's a sign that something needs a quick adjustment.
How to read the Box Plot chart
The Boxplot chart helps you compare your brewing consistency across different days, times of the week, or even between specific espresso machines. It's the easiest way to spot if a specific shift or piece of equipment is drifting.
⚠️ The Box Plot chart data varies based on the Parameter filters.
We use “Box Plots” to show your data. Each “box” on the chart is a visual summary of a group of brews:
- The Box shows where most of your shots are landing.
- The Whiskers (lines) stretch out to show the fastest and slowest shots in that group.
- The line in the middle is the “Median”, or your most typical shot.

💡 Tip:
If the box is small and the line is right where your recipe says it should be, you're on the right track. If the box is tall or the whiskers are very long, your shots are inconsistent adjustments are needed.
