Specifications

Requirements

  • Wireless VINT Hub (HUB 5000_0)
  • VINT device (e.g. TMP1100, TMP1101, TMP1200, etc.)
  • Phidgets cables (i.e. 3002_0, 3003_0, 3004_0)

⚠️ There are various types of Phidget cables available for the connection.

Installing the Phidget driver

⚠️ Required Setup:

Before using your Phidgets hardware, you must first install the Phidget Control Panel, which can be downloaded here.

Connecting the Hub to a Network

The HUB5000 (Wireless VINT Hub) supports both wired and wireless configurations. To begin the setup process, ensure the following components are connected to the HUB5000:

  • Power jack
  • VINT Device(s)
  • (optional) Ethernet cable for a connection with...
    • A network router/switch.
    • Your computer's Ethernet port

When you connect the power supply to the HUB5000, the red LED should turn on.

Choose your connection method to proceed:

  • Wireless: Follow the Connecting to the Wireless Network steps.
  • Wired: Follow the Connecting via Ethernet steps.

Connecting to the Wireless Network

  1. Access your device's Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Connect to the Phidget's Network (e.g., Phidgets_HUB5000_XXXXXX).
This picture shows the available HUB5000's network, done via a Mac computer's Network interface.
  • Enter the password printed on the HUB5000's label, and submit it to connect to the network. You will lose Wi-Fi access until you finalize the steps in this section.
On the left, find the HUB5000's label, containing the password, amongst other information. On the right, find a Mac's network interface.

  1. Access the Phidgets Configuration by going to your web browser (e.g., Google Chrome), and typing your HUB5000's IP address or hostname in the URL address bar.
    • IP address
    • Hostname in the form http://<hostname>.local/
  2. If you are accessing the Phidget's Configuration page for the first time, you are prompted to set a password. Enter a desired password twice and click the Submit button. You will be redirected to the Status tab.
⚠️ Please record this password in a safe location. You will be prompted for these credentials every time you access the Phidgets Configuration moving forward.

  3. Go to the Network tab, and configure the Wireless Settings.
    • Set the Wireless Mode to Client.
    • Next to Networks, click the Scan button, and wait a few seconds.
    • Click the Networks dropdown menu, and select your Wi-Fi network. This will autofill the network's Name and Security information.
⚠️ HUB5000 can not be connected to a hidden network (SSID).
    • Enter your Wi-Fi Network's password.
The password is the same password you use to connect to your WiFi network.
  4. Click Save & Apply, then click OK to dismiss the warning.
  5. Proceed with identifying the IP address.
  6. It might take a few minutes for your Phidgets devices to be “connected”. Once the VINT Hub is recognized as connected, it will appear in the Phidget Control Panel.

Connecting via Ethernet cable

  1. Access the Phidget Configuration by going to your web browser (e.g., Google Chrome), and typing your HUB5000's IP address or hostname in the URL address bar.
    • IP address
    • Hostname in the form http://<hostname>.local/
  2. Input a password for the Phidget's Configuration page, and click the Submit button. You will be redirected to the Status tab.
Remember this password, as you'll need it to access the Phidgets Configuration from now on.
  3. Once logged in to the Phidget Configure page, navigate to the Network tab.
  4. Follow the instructions, based on whether the VINT Hub:
    • Connects to a network switch/router
    • Connects directly to the computer

Connecting to a network switch/router

  1. From the Network tab, set the IPv4 Mode to DHCP.
  2. Proceed with identifying the IP address.

Connecting directly to the computer

  1. From the Network tab, set the IPv4 Mode to Static.
  2. Enter the following Ethernet settings:
    • IP address: 10.0.1.199
    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  3. Under Ethernet Settings, click Save & Apply
  4. Continue with setting up a Static IP address.

Setting a Static IP address

If you are connecting the VINT Hub via Ethernet cable, directly to the computer, please set a Static IP address (e.g., 10.1.0.42), based on the connected VINT Hub's IP address (e.g., 10.1.0.199).

Identifying the IP address

  1. Access the Phidgets Configuration by going to your web browser (e.g., Google Chrome), and typing your HUB5000's hostname in the form http://<hostname>.local/ in the URL address bar:
  2. If you are not yet logged in, you will need to enter your password.
  3. From the Status tab, refer to the IP address under the Network section.
Once you've identified the IP address, remember it, as you will need it when establishing a connection to the machine.
  4. Proceed with the Roasting Intelligence Setup.
