Overview

This article explains how to enable the "Machine event-based auto-start and end of roast detection" in Cropster's Roasting Intelligence.

Instructions

Tips and Recommendations:

  • As this feature is in Beta, we recommend running a test roast without beans first to confirm it works correctly.
  • Once you’ve verified that start and stop events trigger reliably, you can move on to production roasts.
  • If the automatic triggers fail, simply use the "Start" or "Stop" buttons to control the process manually.

Roasting Intelligence can now automatically start and stop your roasts by detecting commands directly from your machine.
By reading these machine events, Roasting Intelligence eliminates the need for manual clicks, ensuring your roast times are captured with much higher precision.

⚠️  "Machine event-based" triggers vary by roaster. Refer to the list below to find the specific events supported by your machine.

Roast machine

Relevant machine-based events

Atilla Gold Plus & Automation, and Atilla Gold Plus & Automation RE

Start: Bean charging.

Stop: Target temperature reached.

Neuhaus Neotec RFB Junior/RFB-S and NEOROAST

Start: The filling process begins.

Stop: The emptying process begins.

Requirements

To use the automatic start and stop feature, your setup must meet the following requirements:

  • One of the following machines and corresponding connectors:
    • Atilla Gold Plus roaster (Atilla Gold Plus & Automation, and Atilla Gold Plus & Automation RE connectors)
    • Neuhaus Neotec roaster (Neuhaus Neotec PLC connector)
    • Prisma via WiFi roaster (Manufactured from January 2022 onwards)

Enabling the "Auto-start and end of roast detection" feature

  1. Navigate toPreferences > Machine > Configuration.
  2. To choose the Roast machine, click on the dropdown menu in the Machine section.
  3. Click the + Add connector option to choose your connector from the dropdown list.
  4. Certain roast machines require you to select a machine version:
    • If your machine is an Atilla Gold Plus roaster:
Click theGear icon next to the connector dropdown.
In the connector settings, select the software Version of your Atilla Gold Plus roaster: Atilla Gold Plus & Automation or Atilla Gold Plus & Automation RE
    • If your machine is a Neuhaus Neotec roaster:
Click theGear icon next to the connector dropdown.
In the connector settings, select the software version of your Neuhaus Neotec roaster: RFB Junior/RFB-S or NEOROAST.
  5. Click Select.
  6. Navigate to the Roasting > Smart features tab > Smart detection section.
  7. Check the "Machine event-based auto-start and end of roast detection" box to enable the feature.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Restart Roasting Intelligence.

Follow these instructions below to configure an automated roasting session:

The 'Auto-start ready' text confirms your setup. If it doesn't appear, the status bar will tell you exactly what’s missing—like a selected Profile or Inventory—so you can fix it before roasting."

  1. Select your data: On the pre-roasting screen, choose your Profile and Green Inventory.
  2. Check the status: Once your roaster is connected, look for the text "Auto-start ready..." in the bottom-left corner of the window.
  3. Roast:
    • Start: Open the hopper to automatically begin logging.
    • Stop: Open the discharge (emission) door to automatically end the session.

Once the roast stops automatically, Roasting Intelligence will switch to the post-roast screen. If the automation fails, you can still manually press the Start or Stop buttons at any time.

Troubleshooting

If you cannot see the feature enabled, please check the following:

  • Is your machine and connector compatible with the Auto-start and end-of-roast feature?
  • Is the correct connector selected for your machine?
  • Is the Start and end of roast checkbox checked for Smart Detection under the General tab?
  • Is the "Machine event-based auto-start and end of roast" checkbox checked under the Start and end of roast checkbox? (first option)
  • Have you checked that a Profile and Green Inventory have been selected, as well as the correct weight?
