Overview

Green grading, or physical analysis, is the process of evaluating unroasted coffee beans to determine quality before roasting. This article explains how to record moisture, density, water activity, and defects to provide a baseline for roast profiling and quality control.

Physical analysis supports purchase decisions and lot approvals. With Cropster, you can track the following metrics for samples and green lots:

  • Moisture, Density, and Water Activity
  • Screen size and Milling difference
  • Defects (available for Cropster Scale and higher tiers)
