Why is reviewing the Quality session results important?

Quality Sessions in Cropster are used to systematically assess and record coffee quality. They bring together all relevant data - from green grading results to cupping scores. Reviewing the results is key; it allows you to track consistency, compare samples, and make informed sourcing and roasting, and quality improvement decisions over time.

One QS (Quality Session) consists of several QCs (Quality Control). QC means Quality Control for a single lot.

Reviewing your Quality session results

  1. Log in to the online platform C-sar.
  2. Navigate to Quality on the main menu bar and select Cupping sessions.
  3. Click on the Qs tag of the session you wish to review.
  4. You will be directed to the Quality Session details page.

In the following, we will explore the different sections of the Quality Session details page:

Tips and Recommendations

By clicking on the Start tour button, you can explore the Quality Session details page.

  1. Details: Shows you all the session's details.
  2. Session stats: Shows you the number of samples, evaluators, and submitted results.
  3. Evaluators: Shows you all participating evaluators. Edit your evaluators or click the green dot to exclude the results of a specific evaluator.
  4. Compare final scores: You need at least two analyses with cupping results to display this chart.
  5. Compare categories: You can compare the different categories of the samples here.
  6. Compare descriptors: You can compare the different descriptors of the samples here.

Comparing the results across Quality Sessions

  1. Log in to the online platform C-sar.
  2. Navigate to Quality on the main menu bar and select Sensorial.
  3. Click on the respective checkboxes next to the Quality Sessions you would like to compare with each other.
  4. A menu bar opens at the top, click Compare.
  5. You will be directed to the Compare sensorial analyses details page.

Please note that some comparisons might only work if all selected analysis results have the same cupping sheet.

In the following, we will explore the different sections of the Compare sensorial analysis details page.

Tips and Recommendations

By clicking on the Start tour button, you can explore the Compare sensorial analysis details page.

  1. Session details: You can see all your session details here, like the number of coffees, participants, cupping form, etc.
  2. Filter by the Final score: You can filter your QCs (Quality Cupping) here. Only coffees with final scores in this range will be displayed.
  3. Filter by Descriptors: You can search for a special descriptor, like "chocolate," to view results with that descriptor.
  4. QC selection: You can select or deselect the QCs here. Selected QCs will display in the graph below.
  5. Customize Table columns: Click the Columns button to discover which other columns are available.
  6. Compare Final score: There are multiple ways to view your results. In "Overall," you can compare the average final scores. In "Compare Evaluators," you can compare how the different evaluators scored in comparison to the average, and in "Spread and Deviation," you can map your outliers. "Spread and Deviation" works best with at least 5 evaluators.`
  7. Compare Categories: You can filter cup performance by categories. To sort scores by a specific category, just click on the category. You can organize by low to high, or high to low, by clicking it again. If your sheet does not have "categories", this function will not be available.
  8. Compare Descriptors: You can view your descriptors in word clouds. The number of times a descriptor is used will be displayed behind it. With each mention, the word will grow in size. If a descriptor is red, it has been marked as negative by the evaluator.
  9. Descriptor Comparison in Category: Use this table to compare descriptors in each category. You can use the search field above the table to filter for specific descriptors.
