How to verify the WiFi network frequency

This article explains how to verify the WiFi network frequency on macOS and Windows, as well as on iOs and Android.


The BrewBeacon works only with a 2.4 GHz WiFi network frequency. 



Verifying the WiFi network frequency on your laptop

Using macOS

By following the steps below you can verify the WiFi network frequency on macOS:

  1. Connect to your WiFi network
  2. Navigate to the WiFi icon on the top right bar. 
  3. Hold down the ⌥ Option key and click on the WiFi icon
  4. A window will pop up:

  5. Navigate to the Channel information. 
  6. The text will say 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz

Using Windows

By following the steps below you can verify the WiFi network frequency on Windows:
  1. Connect to your WiFi network
  2. Navigate to the WiFi icon on the bottom right side of the screen.  
  3. Click on Properties
  4. A new window will pop up. 
  5. Scroll down to the Properties section.
  6. The Network band will show whether the frequency is 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz.

Verifying the WiFi network frequency on your phone

Using iOs

Based on Apple's instructions, you need to install a "Wifi analyzer" app from the App Store.


Using Android 

By following the steps below you can verify the WiFi network frequency on Android: 

  1. Navigate to the Notification panel.
  2. Press and hold the WiFi icon
  3. You will be directed to the WiFi settings screen.
  4. Tap the gear-png Gear icon and select Network properties.
  5. The following step depends on the Android version:
    • The Frequency setting shows the WiFi frequency.
    • You can also read the Network speed setting. 
      💡 If the Network speed exceeds 400 Mbps, then you are connected to a 5GHz network.

To adjust the wireless configuration on your router to split your connection into 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands, you need to get in touch with your network technician or internet service provider.
